Tips from a local: Celia in Hampstead

Celia Muñoz is a mama of five and the founder/designer of the beautiful children’s clothing brand, La Coqueta. She and her family live in a pretty Georgian home in the historic north London neighbourhood of Hampstead, and her charming boutique is located just down the road in the village. A true Hampstead local! We are so thrilled she’s taken the time to jot down her favourite spots for us. Here are her local tips:

1. Best date night restaurant: Our favourite Spanish restaurant in London is Barrafina. It transports me back home! Make sure you get there early and are in no rush as you may have to wait until you get a seat but the experience is very authentic and the food is totally delicious. For a more formal date, Gaulthier is a favourite… I find you can never go wrong with French and I love the fact that you get into a real house and the rooms are different spaces in the restaurant.

2. Favourite family-friendly dinner spot: As a family we totally love La Collina in Primrose Hill and we also love Donostia, our latest discovery.

3. Cosiest local cafe (or best place to grab a take-away!): Undoubtedly our new local in Hampstead, the LLS café — their salads are totally delicious and the two sisters who own it are super charming.

4. Trusted children’s shop: La Coqueta, of course — it’s the only place I shop for my children’s clothes! I also love the shop across the road from my shop Maison Auguste and Honey & Jam have really fun and interesting pieces.

5. Favourite women’s shop: I am absolutely obsessed with Bella Freud’s jumpers. I also love getting bits and bobs from Couverture and Lau.

6. Coolest local playground: We don’t usually go to playgrounds as such… our best playground is Hampstead Heath with real trees to climb on and hide within!

7. Favourite food shop: I love the Hampstead Butcher & Providore  and Montadito.

8. Best shop for homewares, fun finds, or special gifts: My very favourite store is Phoenix in Golbourne Road. The owner, Jess, is incredibly talented and has the best finds for furniture as well as vintage clothes.

9. Local activity centre, museum or cultural spot: As a family we love the Museum of Childhood where we often go, and the Victoria & Albert Museum, in particular its interiors section which always fascinates my children.

10. Favourite park or outdoor space: We love the Golders Hill park and watching all the animals on a Saturday morning. I also love going for a run early in the morning.
