Parc André Citroën

Parc André Citroën is a modern architectural park that was opened in 1992. It is located in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, where the French car factory Citroën debuted in 1915 and was therefore given the name of its founder. It is one of the more modern parks of the city and was built around the same time as Parc de la Villette, Bercy and Parc de Belleville.

The park is the only one in Paris that has a direct access to the Seine river. It consists of a huge lawn surrounded by various smaller spaces, arranged as thematic gardens on both sides. Two modern greenhouses and aquatic play areas adorn the higher point of the park, on the opposite side of the river. Play areas are located in the white and black gardens, including a ping-pong table, sandboxes, slides and wooden sheds. Wooden benches and deck chairs can be found here and there to relax, read or soak up the sun and a free water fountain gives you access to still and sparkling Parisian water! How fun, right?

The most noticeable attraction of the park is the giant tethered gas balloon. It is the biggest of it’s kind worldwide, takes up to 30 adults and 60 kids 150 meters above ground and measures the quality of the Parisian air. If the air of the capital is clean, silhouettes of its monuments will light up green on the balloon. The same silhouettes change to orange or even red, depending on the pollution. So while you enjoy the view from above, you will also be informed about the air quality in real time.

The park is most beautiful during Spring and Summer months, when the big lawn is open to play and picnics, every tree green, flowers blooming and all aquatic animations running (kids will especially love playing among the water jets  between the greenhouses during the hotter months). But even in the winter it is an interesting architectural structure where every corner hides a different color, tree or plant.
