Federal Cafe

Between the busy streets of the Barrio Gótico, you’ll find this quiet plaza in which the cafe Federal is found called Pasage de la paz (meaning passage of peace) where it feels like the city has been put on standby. Friends calmly chat around their tables holding their warm expressos or hot chocolates, and entrepreneurs busily work on their laptops accompanied by cookies and cappuccinos.

Federal is known for having great coffee (for the coffee lovers out there), but what I was pleasantly surprised by was their hot chocolate! Unless you love the thick hot chocolate which is made for dipping churros in it and so mostly resembles a moose rather then a hot chocolate, it is hard to find a ´normal´ runny hot chocolate in this city. And if you DO happen to find a place it is usually made with a type of nesquik (called cacaolat) which for real hot chocolate lovers just doesn’t quite hit the spot…

This is a good place to sit, relax, reenergise, and get back out and about.

P.S. I wouldn’t give their cookies a miss either…
