Wild Was Mama is an absolutely lovely Brooklyn boutique with a focus on babywearing, maternity and nursing apparel, and eco-friendly products for babies and children. Each of the two locations (one in Greenpoint and one in Park Slope) carries a wide selection of structured and soft baby carriers and slings, all available to try on in the store. The staff are helpful and patient — explaining the pros/cons of different carriers, how to use them, and working with you to select the best option for you. Beyond carriers and slings, sections of the store are devoted to natural and organic clothing and accessories (this is the first store I’ve found in New York that carries New Zealand brand Nature Baby, which I adore), cloth diapering, nursing apparel and supplies (including pumps and accessories), a well-curated selection of bottles and feeding items, and a tempting display of rattles and small toys.
Spacious and designed to make certain you’re comfortable as you shop, the store has a play area with kitchen, a rack of books, and a tiny rocking chair to help keep small children busy, as well as a comfortable couch for reading or settling in to feed your baby. Behind the retail portion of the store is a classroom used to host a wide range of programming – everything from classes on childbirth, nursing, and babywearing to music and movement classes for infants and toddlers.
