Located in the middle of the Eixample Dret, surrounded by the cities most iconic sites lies Casa Bonay. Originally home to the Bonay family, this establishment was built in 1869, and although the building itself has been remodelled countless times, the neoclassical facade remains untouched.
Home now to 67 rooms, Casa Bonay boasts of luminous patios with luscious plants, and several common spaces with free Wifi, one of which is a rooftop terrace where they often organise special events.
What I like the most about this boutique hotel is that they have kept the quintessential essence of the original building, so when you stay here you are staying in a real catalan home. This is not just a place to sleep but rather an experience to accompany your travel adventures.
Although the rooms are sound proofed, they have been able to keep the hydraulic tiles, and integrated typical Catalan design whilst still remaining modern and fresh. The mini bars are stocked with local snacks and refreshments, and the bedding has been designed by two young Catalan designers. Most rooms have a section that you can close off so if you have a baby that is easily woken up you don’t have to have to cot in the same space, but is close enough that you can hear your little one if he or she is woken up. Some rooms have a terrace (even on the ground floor) which can be very practical when you have young kids that need to run around a little more.
If this wasn’t enough to make you want to stay here the hotel brags of having one of the best coffees in town called Satans coffee, and the handmade, organic natural juices by a local brand Mother. Adjacent to the lobby is also The Elephant the Crocodile and the Monkey, a Vietnamese restaurant which is open till 11:30 handy for those arriving a late and a little tired from their journey.
