I recently discovered a wonderful Parisian brand for babies and kids: Les Enfantines. It is the kind of brand you immediately fall in love with! Every single piece is so, so beautiful!
Les Enfantines has two shops in Paris: the original one where the brand made its debut in the 16th arrondissement, next to Jardin du Ranelagh, and another one in the 6th arrondissement that was just opened in May, right in front of Jardin du Luxembourg. Being as close as possible to a park was one of the brand’s criterias when looking for the best location to open a shop. Don’t you think it’s genius? While you go shopping for your kids, the rest of the family can enjoy one of Paris’ beautiful parks and you can join them when you’re done! I love this idea and we actually experienced the situation as I was invited to the boutique next to Jardin du Luxembourg and my husband went for a stroll with Oscar while I had the pleasure of meeting Laure Gues, the founder of Les Enfantines.
The story behind the beautiful brand is super interesting and really connected to French fashion history. Laure’s great-grandaunt, Jeanne Lanvin, and her great-grandfather were the founders of French Maison de Mode Lanvin and when Laure’s first daughter was born, her grandmother gave her a lot of Lanvin baby clothes. Among these clothes she discovered many removable bibs and collars and she loved the concept so much that in 2011 she decided to quit her job in the champagne packaging industry and start her own brand selling exclusively removable collars and cashmere pullovers.
Little by little, customers started asking for coordinated skirts or trousers, blouses instead of pullovers, etc… and Laure’s collection began to count more and more clothes. 5 years later almost every possible garment you can think of is available from sizes 0 to 6 years at Les Enfantines and collars are going stronger than ever!
The style of the brand is very retro chic à la française, yet modern enough to be paired with any other piece of your kids’ wardrobe. Everything is made in Portugal, all details and finishing touches being sewn in by hand by portuguese ladies. The beautiful fabrics, carefully chosen in France and England, are so sophisticated any adult could wear them too, would Les Enfantines’ clothes come in bigger sizes! The collars have a little buttonhole to be put on the button that you will find in Les Enfantines’ other garments but you can, of course, sew in little buttons to any of your kids’ pullovers or shirts. In fact, some of the collars also have a larger under-collar and don’t necessarily need a button to be held in place.
Both shops have this really cosy and pastel French decoration style, making you feel super comfortable, as if you were invited to an old friend’s home. I have been told you will even be served a cup of tea while shopping very soon, how exciting!
Hence her background in the luxury packaging industry, Laure designed wonderful gift boxes for her own brand. They come in beautiful pastel colors and have gold foil hot pressed animal silhouettes on them. Stacked upon each other they really remind of French pâtisserie cake boxes as it was Laure’s wish to have her brand be the Ladurée of French kids’ fashion. Due to it’s square shape, the bag in which your purchase will be handed to you also looks like a pâtisserie bag in which all pastel boxes can be stacked neatly.
From time to time Les Enfantines arranges collaborations with other French brands that match their style and aesthetic. Right now for example the organic French soaps and body essentials from Enfance Paris and the delicate jewelry from The Marceline Paris are available at both Les Enfantines boutiques. I can’t wait to see which brands they will choose to introduce us to next!
