Parkside PYO – one of London’s Best Fruit and Veg Farms

There’s something so satisfying and nostalgic about picking your own produce straight from the field. I remember visiting local fruit and veg farms so clearly as a child, filling great big punnets with as many strawberries as we could carry. It was one of the highlights of our summer.

Living in London it hadn’t even occurred to me that we might have some decent fruit and veg farms within easy reach to us. But I was surprised to find that not only are there plenty of farms dotted all around London but we actually have one of the UK’s best just a quick car ride from our corner of the capital.

Parkside Farm near Enfield in North London has been awarded Pick Your Own of the Year a number of times by FARMA the National Farmers’ Retail and Market Association. The sprawling 50 acre farm grows more than 20 different crops, with everything from strawberries, redcurrants, raspberries and blackberries to beetroot, broad beans, corn and swiss chard. They have a handy crop calendar on their website so you can see what’s available before heading down.

The kids absolutely loved our afternoon here, especially pushing each other around in the wheelbarrow trolleys. It felt so good to be surrounded by fields and to get out in the fresh air; we had so much fun we were practically the last ones to leave. We returned home with berry stained fingers and mountains of fresh fruit, courgettes, spinach, tomatoes and broad beans.

Below are some of the tasty dishes we made after our trip to the farm, dinner never tasted so good!

Broad bean, feta and mint bruschetta…

Tricolore salad and Courtney’s tuna bean salad made with the tastiest hand picked tomatoes.

Fresh fruit pavlova’s with berries from the farm and delicious handmade meringues from the farm shop.
