Smorgasburg

Smorgasburg 1 - Babyccino NYC GuideSmorgasburg 2 - Babyccino NYC GuideThink of it as an epic picnic where you don’t have to pack a single thing: Smorgasburg Sunday gathers together 75-100 food and drink vendors each week in the verdant setting of Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Stands with options that range from wood-oven fired pizza to Berliner Döner Kebab and lobster rolls to Filipino spring rolls ring a grassy oval shaded by large trees, and sampling a dish or two from a number of vendors can make for a fun and delicious afternoon.

Smorgasburg 3 - Babyccino NYC GuideSmorgasburg 4 - Babyccino NYC GuideWe gathered a group of friends together to go to Smorgasburg this past weekend, and after spending an hour or so letting the kids run and play at the nearby Splash Pad at LeFrak Center Lakeside, we walked up to the top of Breeze Hill for lunch. We spread blankets in the shade (picnic tables are available too) and took turns visiting a variety of stands with the intent of sharing nearly every dish. The extensive range of options meant that everyone left happy and full, including the kids who were able to run and play between bites. We especially loved the pork belly paratha taco from Goa Taco, the fried chicken from Charli’s Chicken, the frozen slush drinks from Kelvin Slush Co., and the choripan sandwich from The Choripan. Popsicles (peach jasmine) and shave ice (strawberry basil and cherry lemonade) from People’s Pops were an absolute must given the temperatures which hovered in the high 90s.

A few notes:

  • Smorgasburg 2016 runs from 11am-6pm, April-November, rain or shine. Vendor attendance is definitely lower on rainy days.
  • A Saturday Smorgasburg is held at East River State Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
  • Vendors accept cash, and several ATM machines are available should you need them.
