Team Favourites: Seven Cures for Cold & Flu

There is never a good time to get sick, but germs and kids often go hand in hand. Since the season of colds and flus are upon us, we wanted to share our team favourites on how we kick colds and fight the flu. These are our family favourites, and I love how everyone in our team was very passionate about their remedies! After all, health is a serious matter. : )

Seven of our Favourite Remedies are:

  1. Wild Nutrition is a family that cares about health, and makes a great range of family friendly vitamins and supplements. We love that their products are all natural, made from food, are all raw ingredients, and are pesticide free. Multi-strain biotic supplement is especially good to take for seasonal support or if you’ve just finished a dose of prescribed medications (especially antibiotics!).  Pregnant women, children, mamas, dads… It is a brand I can absolutely trust to help support health. – Lara in London
  2. A classic… honey and lemon tea! A simple recipe of : hot water + lemon + honey and then what I loved is the variations the team shared on the final element added … thyme infused! fresh grated ginger! fresh grated tumeric! fresh mint! cinnamon! or a splash of whiskey (for parents)! (aka a Hot Toddy!) I didn’t realise there were so many options, but I love that the variations on the theme support different needs for health. Sweet or strong you can adjust this cure-all potion to you or your child’s desired taste.  And we love using local honey (when possible).  – Esther, Vicky, and Lara in Paris
  3. Aloe Heat Lotion. The kids and I often suffer from a nagging cough at the end of a cold — it seems to be a family weakness. Since they were little I have always used Aloe Heat lotion to help them sleep at night. I rub a little on the soles of their feet and cover with socks and also a little on the middle of their back. The warming aloe and eucalyptus gel relaxes muscles, reduces inflammation and helps clear sinuses. – Kate in London
  4. Sterimar Nasal Spray. Every French parent swears by it. Basically it is a sinus rinse, so kids can breathe better with snotty colds! It is pure, gentle, and natural sea water that is medicine free, and can be used on newborns and anyone suffering from a blocked nose or congestion! – Emilie
  5. Echineca drops  strengthens the immune system and fights colds and flu symptoms. We take it regularly during the Autumn and Winter. – Caroline
  6. Indian Gooseberry Jam or Chyawanaprash has been used for thousands of years and was recommended to me by an Osteopath for those niggling cough that nursery school kids can’t always shake. It is made of 35 ground fruits, herbs, and spices which make a warming tea with either milk or water but can also be spread on toast! Packed with Vitamin C and a nice routine to have on cold winter mornings. You can buy it from most health food stores. – Lara in London
  7. Cherry pit pillows placed on the shoulders can reduce aches associated with colds and flu. It can be used warmed or cool and is a family staple. We thought this organic flexible cushion was sweet. – Lara in Paris

We hope this helps you feel better, and remember, if you are sick, slow down, have a ‘Duvet Day’ as they like to say in the UK (in other words, hide under a big fluffy blanket in bed!). And take it easy. Your body needs energy to fight off bad bugs!

We’d love to hear your family traditions, remedies, cures and tips for bouncing back from being ill. With colds and flu lurking around the corner, we need all the help we can get. 🙂
