Armadillo & Co. is an Australia-based company specialising in handmade rugs made from natural, sustainable materials. I’ve written about Armadillo & Co. before (here), and have long been a fan of their beautiful rugs, so it was an obvious choice when picking out rugs for our home.
The Armadillo & Co. rugs are 100% handmade by artisans — from the spinning and dying of yarns to the weaving and finishing of the rugs — more than ten pairs of hands is required to create each one! (You can read more about the process here.)
We opted for the Zulu Rug, featured in our sitting room above, as well as some of their entrance mats in doorways and hallways. The rugs add warmth and style to our home, they are soft to sit on, and I love knowing that each purchase enhances the lives of the weavers and their communities.
We got the Flower Weave rug for the girls’ bedroom (similar to the one they had in their room in London!). Their new room is tiny, and while you’d think that adding a rug to the room would cramp the space and make it feel smaller, it actually does the opposite! I think it is such a pretty detail in their otherwise pretty minimal bedroom.
Our home is actually quite small (at least for a family of seven!), but because our kids share beds, we get by with having just three small bedrooms. The benefit of a small home is that it didn’t take much to decorate and furnish. We bought a vintage sofa from GumTree, asked a friend to make us some simple bed frames for each bedroom, found some unwanted vintage furniture and chairs at the local charity shop, bought our nesting coffee tables on sale at 50% off… and then opted for pretty rugs to accessorise and become a focal point of each room! I will share more photos of the rest of the house soon. I’ve ordered a cot for Wilkie, so I’ll be able to give him a little space in our bedroom soon.
