Tips from a local: Olivia in Garches, Paris

Olivia is a mom of three (two boys, one girl) and the happy, talented, creative founder and designer of Petit Bec, a beautiful French baby and kids brand. Like many Parisians, she and her family chose to live in the suburbs (Garches) to enjoy a more relaxed and less expensive pace of life, yet with everything the capital has to offer just a short drive away. Her great tips are scattered all over Paris as it is hard to stay in only one neighbourhood in this beautiful city!

1. Best date night restaurant: A very lovely thaï food restaurant has been opened recently next to l’appartement Sezane: Bambou. The food is delicious and the decor is cosy and beautiful. You will be delighted!

2. Favourite family-friendly dinner spot: I will not give tips on a dinner spot as I have no idea on the matter, but if you want to share a very good time in a family-friendly lunch spot, you should go to le Super Café in the 20th arrondissement. There is a very big space dedicated to kids, full of toys and books. It’s a very nice place to go with friends too as you will be able to chat without having crying kids on your knees!

3. Cosiest local cafe (or best place to grab a take-away!): If you are close to Merci, you can go to Cuissons, a cosy and lovely cafe. There is a beautiful zellige tiles wall and a pink ambiance around the kitchen that I really love. The food and the service are nice too. If you are in Paris’ 9th arrondissement, you should go to the seafood restaurant Juste. The “île de Ré” style decoration is amazing and the food delicious. It’s really affordable and also a very good take-away option if you are in a hurry.

4. Trusted children’s shop: In the 15th, there is a really nice concept store called Mombini. They have a great selection of toys and kids bedroom decoration. You will always find something to buy there. If you like concept stores for kids, you have to discover Smallable store where you can also find some items for you.
Bonton is always a good idea, and Bonpoint‘s famous discount store is in the same area of the 7th arrondissement. Not really affordable but you can find beautiful pieces from previous collections slightly discounted.

5. Favourite women’s shop: If you ask me if I had to keep only one women’s shop in the world, it would be APC. I fell in love with this brand when I was fifteen. Fabrics, shapes, everything is simple but always in the right way for me. Not too feminine, always a “less is more” styling that fits me well.

6. Coolest local playground: The coolest local playground for my kids is Parc de Saint-Cloud. A very green area, right next to Paris. There is a nice family friendly restaurant called Le Chalet de l’Oasis, open from March to November. There is also a tiny farm called La Ferme du Piqueur where you will see pigs, chickens and ducks. Young kids will be really happy there.

7. Favourite food shop: La Grande Epicerie de Paris at Le Bon Marché for sure.

8. Best shop for homewares, fun finds, or special gifts:  Merci of course, and less known but just as good: Ailleurs. The store Les Fleurs is a cool place: you will always find special gifts in their eclectic selection. Mona Market is also a great concept store.

9. Local activity center or museum: Musée de l’Homme is easy to visit with kids: you can see everything in an hour. There are fun things to see and some parts where your kids might have to hide their eyes!

10. Favourite park or outdoor space: Jardin de l’Acclimatation is the very best outdoor space for kids in Paris in my opinion. And you could visit the nearby Fondation Louis Vuitton at the same time.

Thanks Olivia for sharing all these nice places with us!
