Tips from a local: Amandine in the 16th arrondissement

Amandine is the sweet mom of cute Henry (age 3) and Olympia (age 1 and ½) and runs Pink Polka Dots blog and agency, specialized in micro influence. She also recently started organizing pop-up shop events for mamas and kids in Paris. She shares with us her favourite spots around the 16th arrondissement, where she lives with her family.

1. Best date night restaurant: Our favorite date night restaurant is Giulio Rebellato. It’s a very fancy delicious Italian restaurant on rue de la Pompe, just around the corner from our apartment. The traditional atmosphere feels so cozy, and the Italian waiters are adorable. We really feel at home there, with the best Italian food: generous and tasty, as it should be.

2. Favourite family-friendly dinner spot: Next door to Giulio Rebellato is the La Pizzeria di Rebellato. Same friendly atmosphere as its neighbor but much more relaxed. You will find lots of families and kids there enjoying their amazing pizzas, right out of the huge pizza oven.

The Coffee Parisien is also a very cool place for dinner with kids, it has a real American diner atmosphere. Their scrumptious burgers come with the most amazing fries. I’ve been going there since like forever and it has been a long-time favorite for me, and now for my babies too!

3. Cosiest local cafe (or best place to grab a take-away!): We are very lucky to live right next to Carette on Place du Trocadéro. This traditional salon de thé with its beautiful vintage decoration and pretty china has the best hot chocolate, delicious mini sandwiches and pastries to die for! The waiters are very welcoming, they always remember us and have a kind word for our babies whom they have known since they were born, and even before that!

4. Trusted children’s shop: Cutie Pie is a small multibrand children’s shop offering a very sharp international selection made by the adorable Sarah, amongst which: Bobo Choses, Misha & Puff, Poudre Organic, Rylee and Crue, The animal observatory, Louise Misha, Louis et Louise. You will always be sure to find the best of each season there.

Louis et Louise is also one of my favourites. I love their cool and chic style with a hint of glitter or gold to turn little girls into princesses.

5. Favourite women’s shop: I often shop at Isabel Marant on 151, avenue Victor-Hugo, the shop is located in a beautiful hôtel particulier. The place is as amazing as her beautiful creations. I also love going to Paul & Joe (123 rue de la Pompe), for their beautiful prints, and Des Petits Hauts (37, avenue Victor Hugo) for their chic yet simple style I adore.

6. Coolest local playground: In the 16th arrondissement, definitely the Ranelagh, it has the most beautiful traditional merry-go-round with wooden horses. Our kids love trying to catch the metallic rings with their little sticks, as we used to when we were their age. There are two different playgrounds with activities for all ages, and of course their all time favorite horse or donkey ride (on real horses this time!).

7. Favorite food shop: We love strolling along rue des Belles Feuilles on Saturdays. We buy our weekly roasted chicken at Fillion, delicious cheese at Androuet, and the best Italian delicacies at Via Della Pasta, while bumping into all our neighborhood friends.

8. Best shop for homewares, fun finds, or special gifts: We always find amazing things at Zara Home! We bought some really lovely dishes and photo frames there, as well as adorable bibs and pyjamas for babies.  For family Christmas gifts I always find something nice at Nouez Moi: bedding, frames, and other pretty decoration accessories.

9. Local activity center or museum: The kids love going to the Paris Aquarium, where they can watch sharks for hours and love patting and feeding the carps. They usually come home totally soaked after that! At the Palais de Tokyo, the Tok Tok workshops also offer various fun activities for kids. A great way to introduce them to contemporary art.

10. Favourite park or outdoor space: We always enjoy going to the Serres d’Auteuil, to watch tropical plants in beautiful greenhouses.  In the main one you can even find tropical fishes and beautiful birds.

In the 16th we are lucky to live very close to the Bois de Boulogne and the Jardin d’Acclimatation, a great amusement park where you can find everything you need to entertain your little ones: lots of merry-go-rounds, boats, wooden race horses and rollercoasters. Once they are done with the spinning, they can go and watch the animals and birds, including bears, lamas etc…

And these are two more addresses Amandine wanted to share with us:

Restaurant Le Bois: a modern version of the French Brasserie with classical French food, just a little lighter than the usual one. Perfect for a girl’s lunch or diner with friends!
Les Grands Verres: inside the Palais de Tokyo, this architectural marvel is the perfect place to enjoy amazing cocktails!

Thank you Amandine for guiding us through your favorite spots of the 16th arrondissement!
