It is not difficult to find good cheese in The Netherlands. You really can’t go too far wrong! There are many cheese shops all around Amsterdam and honestly, they are all good — having said that though, there is one cheese shop that stands out above the rest. Nestled in the “9 straatjes” shopping district in central Amsterdam, De Kaaskamer van Amsterdam (“the cheese room of Amsterdam” in Dutch) is a favoured cheese shop among locals and tourists alike.
The cheese here is not just good, it is incredible – and there is plenty to choose from. Every pocket of space in the shop is occupied by delicious cheeses and accompaniments. All of the cheese is sourced from local farmers and producers that truly know their trade well and there are a huge selection of varieties and flavours available. They really cater to every taste and, like every good cheese shop ought to, you are able to sample the different cheeses to help you decide. The staff are also very helpful and know their cheese well.
As well as cheese, De Kaaskamer also sells everything that goes well with cheese: cured meats, marinated olives, homemade salads, home roasted nuts, flat breads and of course wine. You can easily fill a picnic hamper here and head to your nearest park to enjoy.
