Footpath Flowers by Jon Arno Lawson and Sydney Smith

Footpath FlowersIt’s usual when children first start learning to read they’ll be given sweet little wordless books so they can make up their own story. When I was teaching I loved this stage of learning. Listening to their imaginary worlds as they focus on the tiny details in the illustrations – each story always different, always relevant.

She focuses on the beauty of the city through the tiny flowers she sees by the road side, by the pavement, on the dog’s collar and she wanders how her father can miss all of this while he’s on his telephone. Quite an adpt story for these modern days isn’t it? When we are in a work/balance turmoil. Where we’re striving for a peaceful balance.

Available from amazon (UK) and (US), this is a very special book indeed.
